The automotive industry is quickly heading towards sustainable transportation, and muscle cars are no exceptions to this rule. This is why, over the course of the next few months, you will see the very first electric Dodge Charger models appear in dealerships, offering 100 % electric powertrains without sacrificing on the legendary performance levels you have gotten used to over the years.
Your Duclos Chrysler dealership in Valleyfield tells you more about these vehicles and the features they offer!
For the moment, very few details have been revealed about the electric Dodge Charger, other than the fact that it shares several elements in common with the Charger Daytona SRT concept car revealed in 2022.
This fully electric prototype generated a lot of interest when it was revealed back in the summer of 2022. Not sacrificing in any way on the muscular lines and styling from the current Charger, this concept vehicle received the "R-Wing", which is a type of spoiler found at the front that allows air to pass through the grille, so that it can end up at the top of the hood, which also improves the overall aerodynamics.
Other than the menacing silhouette of this electric muscle car, you will also immediately notice that the model is shifting from a 4- door sedan design to a 2- door coupé, which can be interpreted as "a return to its roots", given that older Charger models used to be made this way.
Let's also mention the presence of a rear spoiler, along with the illuminated Fratzog logo, in white, on the front part of the car. This 3-point badge, which actually dates back quite a few years, was used as original equipment on Dodge muscle cars from 1962 to 1976; and this logo clearly shows that the manufacturer remains loyal to its roots, focused on performance, while also aiming towards a bright future.
Just like the prototype, the electric Charger ‒for which a few images were presented in January -- focuses on a muscular build, though one that is also strikingly understated and streamlined.
The headlights are thinner than ever, lending it a unique and remarkable look while the very large wheels ‒the Daytona SRT prototype had 21-inch tires- also contribute to this imposing stature.
Here too, official details have yet to emerge, although when the concept was revealed, Dodge mentioned 400 V models with power ranging between 455 and 670 horsepower. Even higher performance 800 V Banshee models are also in the works which, according to the manufacturer, should offer performance levels that are superior to the current Hellcat models. If taking into account that the current 6.2-Liter HEMI V8 Hellcat Redeye with which the 2023 Charger is equipped is already ultra-powerful, then this means that we can expect a serious adrenaline rush and performance with the electric Charger!
We still do not have specific information regarding the electric range, however, nor the type of charger that will be used; this information should be revealed over the course of the next few months! And if we believe current rumors, the electric Dodge Charger could be equipped with 2 -- or even 3 -- motors! And just like the Daytona concept was equipped with all-wheel drive, we are willing to bet that the production version will also include this feature, which is already present on current models.
When it comes to the new electric Charger's interior, once more, the only information we have comes from the Daytona prototype and the very first images shared, for which we are already quite excited about.
So, in the press release revealed by the manufacturer in 2022, there was mention of a sporty interior focused on the driver and with optimal ergonomics. This concept vehicle was equipped with a 12.3-inch screen with a 10-degree angle towards the driver, among other things; the 16-inch curved driver cluster also offers exceptional visibility regarding the displayed information, as does the head-up display.
Moreover, the interior does not include any unnecessary elements; simplicity is key. When it comes to the colours and materials present on the concept vehicle, it is quite obvious that we are dealing with an exceptional model that manages to combine elegance, a sporty feel, and modernity perfectly. The ambient lighting along the dashboard and doors is truly stunning, although we still do not know if this feature will be present on the production model.
The manufacturer also promises an immersive experience focused on the driver. How? At the push of a button, it will be possible for you to modify lighting, sounds and screens, among other things, both in the interior and exterior.
And for those of you who worry about losing the melodious purr of the engine from the Dodge Charger internal-combustion-engine models, you should know that the manufacturer has got you covered! The Fratzonic chambered exhaust will allow the electric Charger to provide you with remarkable engine sounds that can reach up to 126 dB, which is the same volume as a Hellcat engine.
Stellantis has confirmed that the pre-production model, for which images were recently revealed, is a precursor, announcing the arrival of the electric Charger by the end of 2024, or early 2025.
Over the course of the next few months, there will be additional information made available, regarding this very first electric muscle car offered by Dodge. This means that you will have to wait a little longer to find out more about its price, the available trims, power and technologies offered by the electric Dodge Charger.
But given the information and images revealed up until now ‒ and by looking at the Daytona SRT EV concept -- the new electric Dodge Charger seems destined to a very promising future and will allow performance car aficionados to keep taking advantage of powerful vehicles, but that do not rely on a single drop of fuel.
Stay tuned for upcoming articles about the all-new electric Dodge Charger and be among the first lucky few to get behind the wheel of this outstanding car, and to enjoy the amazing driving experience it will provide!
